Regatta And Farewell To Jimmy Ledward

Paddlers from all over the island came out June 11 to Hanalei Pavilion to watch keiki, novices and seasoned paddlers at Namolokama Canoe Club’s annual regatta. In addition to fundraising with food sales, the event served as a time to remember Jimmy Ledward. Ledward, an avid member of the paddling ‘ohana, died June 3. His wife, Mary, also a paddler, wore a gold fishhook necklace while racing in honor of her husband – as a carpenter he prefered the fishhook rather than a traditional ring. July would have marked the couple’s 30th anniversary. Following the regatta, participants paddled out with flowers to pay homage to Ledward.
