Kukuiula Opens In Style

The Club at Kukuiula’s first Men’s Member Championship teed off June 17 and 18.

Though it was the men’s championship, former LPGA player Mary Bea Porter King, president of the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association, filled out one of the foursomes.

The team of Tom Jochner and Peter Sirois won with a two-day, best-ball total of seven under par.

The course, designed by Tom Weiskopf, opened officially just four days before the tournament.

Though a private club, it provides four tee times daily for Kaua’i residents. To qualify, call the Kaua’i-only hotline – 742-3010 – one week before the date you want to play. If more players call than there are openings, the club will hold a lottery. June 22 was the first day for the local program, says head pro Brian Paul, and all 16 slots were filled.
