BON DANCE

More than 200 people flowed into the Kaua’i Soto Zen Temple-Zenshuji grounds in Hanapepe for the first Bon dance of the season.

Gaily colored paper lanterns bobbed in the breezy night air as men, women and children performed traditional dances that welcome the spirits of the ancestors. Taiko Kaua’i and the youth group Tsunami Taiko of Hanapepe entertained, and some temple members performed dances they learned as children in the 1950s.
