Small Card Makes A Big Difference

The big products usually make the headlines, but small ideas can make a big a difference, too. A brainchild of Kickstarter, the ChargeCard is a flat, almost credit card-sized charger that can fit right in your wallet. Sure, you can carry your charging cable around, but with this you can avoid the tangles.

One end of this rubber charger has a flexible rubber tongue with USB contacts, and on the other end you can choose between a 30-pin connector for your iPhone/iPod touch or iPad (2012 or earlier), a Lightning connector for your iPhone 5, or a Micro USB (for Android devices, BlackBerry, Kindle, Nokia, Sony camera, etc.). You just need to find a nearby computer or TV to plug it into and you’re good to go.

ChargeCard is only 2.54mm thick, so it can fit into even the most compact wallets. It even may fit into some iPhone cases. The body is made from durable ABS plastic, and the foldout USB tongue is made of a flexible thermoplastic elastomer. It will work with some cases still attached (e.g., OtterBox), but others, such as the LifeProof case, have to be removed before you plug it in. The flexibility of the USB tongue kind of makes you paranoid about how long it will last, but it does work and has a lifetime guarantee.

The ChargeCard sells for $25 from chargecardproject.com. You can choose white, black (with or without birds) or teal/brown (with or without birds).

Apple Store Turns 5

A little tidbit I just had to throw in: It’s hard to believe, but Apple’s App Store turned 5 last week. The App Store first opened July 8, 2008. Be on the lookout for apps going on sale (or free) to celebrate this: Barefoot World Atlas, Badland, Day One (Journal/Diary), Infinity Blade II, How to Cook Everything and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, to name a few. I’m sure there will be more, just keep your eyes open.
