Congratulations to Alan Ing, DDS, and his staff at Kauai Dental Care on the opening of the practice’s new office in Puhi. I had my teeth cleaned there recently, and I can tell you that the space is pristine and extremely comfortable, to boot. They’ve even got chairs that give you a subtle massage as you get your procedures done. More special thanks to the more than 800VMware employees who assisted with projects for Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii-Lihue Clubhouse last month. (VMware, a technology company based in Palo Alto, Calif., hosted a meeting of its top sales performers on Kauai.) They volunteered their services for a variety of projects including working in the Mayor’s Garden, on Lihue Ball Park and with Healing Horses. The company also donated funds for construction costs for a new county-owned portable building that will serve as an expansion adjacent to the nonprofit in Lihue …

Everyone is invited to attend the annual National Day of Prayer celebration Thursday (May 7) from 9 to 11 a.m. at County of Kauai Moikeha Building rotunda in Lihue Civic Center. The event welcomes people of all religious backgrounds to enjoy musical performances as well as prayer offerings from representatives of different faiths, including Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism and Christianity, as well as others from Interfaith Roundtable of Kauai. A second service honoring the day, sponsored by Kauai Island Ministries, will commence at 11:30 a.m. at the same location. On Mother’s Day (May 10), National Tropical Botanical Garden is inviting all mothers and their families to McBryde Garden for a celebratory day of fun, music, flowers and food. Entry is free for mothers and keiki under age 5. Kauai Historical Society is having a fundraiser, “Musicians, Melodies and Memories,” Saturday (May 9) at 5:30 p.m. at Smith’s Tropical Paradise. Planned are a buffet-style meal, and performances by Darryl Gonzales, Dennis Chun and Kirk Smart. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own instruments, as well as vocal and hula talents, to add to the kanikapila.
