Beauty, Inside And Out

Tell us about your work and what you do. Dance of Beauty offers an array of balancing and rejuvenating beauty treatments. Two types of pigments are used for permanent and semi-permanent cosmetic artistry, which enhance brows, eyes and lips. Looks range from ultra-soft “surfer girl” to elegantly dimensional “oola-la.” Treatments are customized for lifestyle and can be changed or updated. Other client favorites include relaxing facials and collagen stimulating therapy. This series of noninvasive procedures naturally improves skin tone, color, texture and firmness by prompting the body to produce collagen and elastin.

How did you get started in the business and how long has it been going? Twenty years ago I took a more artistic and soft approach to permanent cosmetics than what was popular in the new industry. After attempts from technicians and teachers, I corrected my own eye-liner from bold and super linear to dimensional and soft. Integrating an artistic background with the knowledge from my instructors, I started creating soft yet enhancing looks for people and helped others with corrections. I was an aesthetician at a day spa in Austin, Texas, where we used state-of-the-art equipment and skin care. After I had been on Kauai for a while, I had the opportunity to learn collagen stimulating therapy – it was three years ago on a trip to the Mainland, and just what I had been searching for.

Where are you originally from? I moved to Kauai 10 years ago from Austin, Texas. Both places are friendly, fun, easygoing and open in their own way. I value the positive qualities that I grew up with while learning and appreciating the traditions here. It is ever evolving.

What is your specialty? My specialty is permanent and semi-permanent cosmetic artistry by creating symmetry, subtle definition and dimension. For eyes: soft and subtle lash enhancement to dimensional liner and smoky shading. For brows: super natural hairline strokes; for lips: baby soft color. Corrections are a big part of my business because I like to help those who have attempted it before and are looking for something that looks natural or softer.

What sets your work apart? I started when the industry was in its infancy and studied with many leaders. Today, I keep up to date through continuing education. Permanent and semi-permanent cosmetics are the main things that set my work apart – plus the range from ultra-soft and natural to dimensionally beautiful shows that I take pride in the art I create.

What is your business motto? Creating balance by assisting outer beauty to reflect youth, vitality and grace, while inner beauty shines even more, for everyone’s benefit.

What is your business plan for the future? Dance of Beauty is expanding to encompass belly dance, other forms of dance, fitness, and health and wellness. An East side location may be coming very soon. Also in the works are an updated website, an all new Facebook page and multimedia goodies.
